The Garden Route Airshow 2020

Spotlighting South Africa’s multifaceted aviation industry and presented in aid of fire fighting, the upcoming Garden Route Airshow is a significant event that is the first of its kind since 1995. The year 2020 is perfect for the comeback of this fantastic event which is expected to be bigger than ever before, as it represents the centenary of South Africa’s Air Force and Areo Club.

Taking place at George Airport on Saturday, 25 April 2020, the Garden Route Airshow has locals and visitors to this exquisite setting counting down the days! High performance aircrafts and talented display teams will take to the skies of the Garden Route on the day of the event, showcasing inspired manoeuvres that will leave you in awe. Unique and captivating performances in the sky can be expected throughout the event, while those attending have the potential to meet and greet some of the top flying and performing teams in the country. This event will also provide more insight into aviation career growth to guests attending, which are estimated to be about 20,000 individuals.

The Garden Route Airshow of 2020 will be held in aid of fire fighting, as local fires have taken their toll on the exquisite Garden Route over the years, most recently so the Knysna fires and then the George fires that followed only 1 year later. These fires exposed the vulnerability of the areas coastal destinations, while also threatening the livelihood of locals and the success of locally established businesses. The goal of this air show is to address issues like lack of training and equipment among fire fighters, by providing accredited training to volunteer organisations in the area, as well as through the provision of reliable equipment.

One of the highlights of this year’s Garden Route Airshow will be the largest ever seen formation of helicopters, some of which have never been seen at other South African air shows before. The event’s extensive programme will also include a variety of civil and military helicopters, making this the ideal outing for aviation lovers and flying enthusiasts! This is a family-friendly event and plenty of activities are planned for the day, ensuring that everyone is fully entertained.

Static aviation displays and display stalls, fun hobby shops and vendors selling food and beverages will be present during the Garden Route Airshow. Event organisers encourage attendees to bring sunhats and sunscreen along, as the event is mostly outdoors. With so many spectacular displays and attractions planned for the day, you’ll want to remember your camera too! For those fascinated by all things flying, The Flying Club offers incredible microlight flying experiences, showcasing the extensive natural beauty of this setting.
