“One of the smallest and most beautiful, charming bays on the Garden Route”
Welcome to ‘Vic Bay’, one of the hidden gems of the Garden Route, ideally situated between George and Wilderness.
This small picturesque cove is sheltered by magnificent cliffs, making it one of the safest beaches in the vicinity.
The western side of the bay culminates in large boulders believed to have rolled down from the top of the hill. This area is known as Land’s End, the name given to the original bungalow at the end of the road. This bungalow is now a self-catering and B&B establishment, as are most of the thirteen properties along the road.
The eastern side consists of rocks, flanked briefly by a concrete wall built to prevent erosion of the slope. There is a small cave used by fishermen as shelter. The end of the eastern side is known as Kabeljou Bank, named after the large Cob often line-caught from these rocks.
The grassy area above the beach has BBQ/braai facilities and a small shop and restaurant are situated at the top of the beach road.
Victoria Bay’s gently sloping sandy beach and tidal pool are a top favorite for families and the pier popular amongst fishermen.
Victoria Bay is also famous for its perfect waves and consistent pointbreak, a challenge to top surfers around the world, particularly during the winter months (June – August). District and National surf competitions are often held at here and despite its small size, Vic Bay is a well-known and much-visited spot.
