Knysna Literary Festival – 6th to 8th March 2020

The highly anticipated Knysna Literary Festival comprises of a diverse and inspired programme, where participants and attendees can let their imaginations soar to new heights (as the theme for this year event promises). As the 11th event of its kind, the annual #KnysnaLitFest attracts many visitors to the exquisite seaside suburb of Knysna, from celebrity authors and renowned journalists to curious readers, bookworms and those with a fondness for literature, languages and written works. This event exposes South African talents and gives them a platform from which to share their work and meet with captive audiences. Engaging workshops, debates, readings and conversations will take place at various venues around Thesen Island throughout the festival.

Whether you’re interested in current affairs and political discussions or would love to be inspired by the creative minds of fiction authors as they express adventure and emotion through their storytelling capabilities, the Knysna Literary Festival has something for everyone, regardless of age. Knysna Timber Festival 12th – 15th March

Given that timber growth in South Africa first took root in the seaside village of Knysna, there is no better setting to appreciate the local craftsmanship and talent that has elevated our countries thriving timber industry than at this exceptional destination. Presented by the Knysna Timber Initiative, which is aligned with the economic development of the area through the timber sector, the annual Knysna Timber Festival will present industry initiatives, local timber and woodworking materials, machinery, manufacturers, services and products over the course of this weekend long exhibition. For those attending, captivating exhibitions will showcase unique timber creations of furniture, rustic hand-crafted products and workshops for DIY enthusiasts to benefit from.

Marking the 8th event of its kind, this year’s Knysna Timber Festival will again connect suppliers to buyers and promote collaboration and unity within South Africa’s timber industry. KKNK (Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees) 23rd – 29th March

Taking place in the quiet Klein Karoo town of Oudtshoorn (home to the largest ostrich population in the world!) the Klein Karoo Art Festival has become synonymous with this countryside setting, situated within the spectacular Garden Route. The popular Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees (KKNK) is a spectacular annual coming together of creativity, performance and expression. Exceptional local productions place the spotlight on upcoming actors and producers in the Garden Route, while celebrations of the vibrant Afrikaans culture and some of the best foods and wines of the Garden Route can be fully appreciated. Classical music enthusiasts are in for a treat as various famous choirs will be performing live at this year’s event, including renowned university choirs. This event attracts tourists from all walks of life and has been considered the largest art festival in the country.

Sedgefield Slow Festival 27th – 29th March

Declared Africa’s first Cittaslow (literally meaning ‘slow city’) Town in 2020, Sedgefield is the ideal setting for a festival that inspires slow living and appreciating every moment for what it is.
