Bush & Beach: A Big 5 Family Friendly Safari near Plett
Featured in our Garden Route Safari Blog
Baroness Safari Lodge is a truly special, colonial-style lodge originally built in 1822 by Baron von Pletten, an early South African pioneer and conservationist.
Built from local stone, the Lodge has an ‘out of Africa’ feel with eclectic and colourful décor. Unique art pieces, antiques and chandeliers mix effortlessly with leather couches, shabby chic sofas, kilim floor rugs and animal skins.
Set in the malaria free Plettenberg Bay Game Reserve, home to The Big 5, enjoy views across the plains, spotting game such as zebra and antelope which roam freely nearby. The surrounding indigenous forests and majestic Tsitsikamma Mountains add to the natural beauty of this landscape.
This 2200 hectare game farm is the biggest reserve in the Southern Cape, home to over 35 species of game including lion, rhino, giraffe, hippo, crocodiles, buffalo, and a large variety of antelope plus more than 101 different bird species. Furthermore, it’s the biggest sanctuary in the area for the endangered white rhino.
On-site activities include game drives, horseback safaris, bush walks & guided river paddling trips up the Keurbooms River. Qualified guides will gladly impart their knowledge of the fauna, flora and animals you encounter along the way.
The reserve is an easy 15 minute drive to Plettenberg Bay, allowing for a perfect Bush & Beach experience.
