Plett Wine and Bubbly Festival

Life in the Garden Route is all about celebrating life and the Plett Wine & Bubbly Festival strives to do just that. On the weekend of 8 and 9 October, Plettenberg Bay’s central beach will be the venue for the third annual festival.

The Plettenberg Bay area may be one of the newest ‘wine of origin’ regions on South Africa, yet the quality of wine should not be underestimated at all. In order to showcase these lesser known wineries, and to develop a unique wine and bubbly centred experience, Plett Tourism launched the festival in 2013.

With 16 wine farms in the Plettenberg Bay wine route, visitors can look forward to a lovely variety of Sauvignon blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot noir and Méthode Cap Classique wines. As will all good wines, the experience is enhanced with good food. Artisanal cheese, charcuterie and breads, as well as sushi and beautiful cultivated oysters, will all be part of the delightful spread available to festival goers.

Participating wine farms are Anderson Wine, Bitou Vineyards, Kay & Monty Vineyards, Lodestone Wine & Olives, Luka Wines, Newstead Lund Family Vineyards, Packwood Wine Estate, Plettenvale Wine Estate and Redford Lane Wines.

This year, visitors can look forward to the newly launched Wine Theatre, a small and intimate theatre experience with a series of guest speakers offering an authentic experience for wine aficionados. Tickets to the theatre events are only R20.

The festival in not just about wine and bubbly! Dust off your dancing shoes for the Great Gatsby Dinner Dance at Ouland Royale. Only R550 per person will get you a glass of bubbly and canapés at the door, a three course dinner paired with Plettenvale Wines and dancing to music by Sujo Band.

For the active and adventurous the weekend also offers the Tour de Plett MTB Cycle Race on Saturday 8 October, offering an 87km MTB marathon, a 58km half marathon or a 20km fun ride. On Sunday the 9th the Robberg Xpress Trail Run offers a 10km exciting, high adrenaline and technical 10km trail run or the Shy Shark a 5km option for families.
