My husband and I recently experienced a 2 night stay at Simbavati Collections’ Garden Route property, Fynbos on Sea.
Perched high up on the mountain top towering Swartvlei beach, the views from this Cloud 9 vantage point are breathtaking, uninterrupted and unsurpassed: sweeping views over the vast Indian Ocean, endless Sedgefield beach, majestic Outeniqua Mountain range and Swartvlei, an interconnected aquatic system featuring a large lake, winding river network, an estuary and a tidal lagoon which feeds into the ocean.
This place combines landscapes that the Garden Route is world-renown for! Simply put, it’s: PICTURE PERFECT
We were given a warm welcome by the friendly staff and management team, who very kindly upgraded our room to their flagship Luxury Suite, a corner room with the most magnificent views over the fynbos out towards the endless ocean.
The Suite was spacious, the bed extremely comfortable with high quality linen, and top-end finishes throughout, in true Simbavati style. I particularly appreciated the hand written welcome card, organic soap bar, fresh cut fynbos, filter coffee and home made rusks.
The next 2 days were enjoyed simply relaxing with a good book next to the pool side, lazy mornings with coffee in bed watching the buck graze nearby, scrumptious breakfasts and romantic dinners at their fine dining restaurant (their food was next level!), a leisurely walk to the paragliding launch site which has postcard views you’d write home about with some game viewing enroute, sundowners on the deck and real quality R&R with my best friend.
We also indulged in some spa treatments which was heavenly (our massage therapists truly had healing hands), and we made use of their other spa facilities including the sauna and outdoor Kol Kol wood-fired hot tub.
Fynbos on Sea is the kind of destination where you check-in and don’t want to leave. But if you do feel up for more adventures, they have lots on offer to guests including sunset barge cruises, paragliding, mountain bike trails, kayaking, guided walks & 4×4 drives where you can see their free roaming eland, zebra, bushbuck and waterbuck up close. We opted for the former…maybe next time.
