Would you like to join the Klein Karoo Klassique this year? This annual music festival is scheduled to take place from 8 – 10 August 2025, in Oudtshoorn. This ten-day classical music festival boasts a varied program including recitals, orchestral concertos, chamber music, and special events for young and old alike, including “Little Maestro’s” sessions for the children.
Aside from the music, since the event would take place in Oudtshoorn, expect a fiesta of festival culture and the area. Oudtshoorn is the Klein Karoo capital, a semi-desert region known for ostrich farming, rugged landscapes and relaxed charm. The festival is part of the larger cultural showcase alongside local tourism, promoting the town, local food, and the landscape. Have a look at their complete performance schedule on their website and take a look at the passes and tickets.
You can begin your festival day with a Breakfast Concert, where lovely classical music is mixed with a tasty morning breakfast. Held each morning of the festival, these complimentary concerts are utilised to combine wonderful, inspiring music with calm surroundings. Embark on a tour with RJ Tours and go back in time to discover one-of-a-kind sandstone structures, such as the very first Jewish synagogue in Oudtshoorn, constructed in 1888.
Renowned musicians Liesl Stoltz (flute), Rosamund Roth (cello), and José Dias (piano) will perform Mozart, Goossens, and Louise Farrenc’s music, followed by a complimentary music discussion in the Banqueting Hall. Have an adventure and sample something different, such as a tour and tasting at the award-winning De Rustica Olive Estate, which will provide you with a friendly, hospitable, and informative experience to discover how olive oil is cultivated, harvested, and manufactured.
If you won’t be staying in the area for the entire 10 days of the festival, Oudtshoorn has an abundance of other activities and attractions to enjoy during your time there. One of the most interesting activities to partake in around the area is visiting the Cango Wildlife Ranch, encountering Karoo animals up close and personal, or taking a tour, and exploring the immaculate yet dramatic limestone caves at the Cango Caves, and learning more about how they were formed and how they were discovered. If you are the adventurous type, go for the spelunking-style path along narrow tunnels such as Lumbago Alley, Devil’s Chimney, and the Letter Box.
A visit to the Highgate Ostrich Farm is a must! Take part in an hour-long guided stroll around the farm and the countryside, hand-feed an ostrich, and get a close-up or even dare to ride one.
