My husband, our 2 dog children and I had the absolute privilege of spending last week-end in heavenly bliss at Azure Wilderness, an exclusive Wilderness beachfront villa that has just signed up to be part of Hello Garden Route’s property management portfolio. Naturally, we got to stay over as to be able to share our first-hand experience with our valued travellers. I sure do love the perks of this job!
We arrived Saturday midday and immediately sunk into relaxation mode. When you’re staying right on the beachfront, you can’t help but take in a deep breath of fresh sea air and unwind…
Soon enough, our friends started arriving for a ‘lekker’ (proudly South African expression for very, very nice) visit: sundowners on the sea facing balcony followed by a traditional braai (also known as BBQ). This house offers two BBQ/Braai areas: A wood-burning one on the sheltered garden facing patio which leads off the dining room and the other, a wood & gas burning indoor braai in a nook leading just off the lounge. We opted for the latter, being sea facing and with not much wind that night, we could open up the stack sliding doors to be both inside and outside at the same time.
It was a real treat being outdoors, watching the sun set over the vast Indian ocean, socializing around the fire, enjoying a meal with our loved ones under the starry African sky and then, eventually, falling asleep the sound of the ocean in the not too far off distance. Waking up to endless sea views was a dream come true, too. I’m a total beach baby so being anywhere near the ocean is my ideal!
We invited our family (including my 88 year old grandfather – he loved the house and views too!) around for Sunday brunch – the kitchen is well equipped and very spacious making is easy for us all to move around and help prepare a delectable meal. On the menu: scrambled eggs, salmon, Hollandaise sauce, capers and fresh home-made bread. The indoor dining room has enough space to seat 8, there is an additional 4-seater dining table in the open-plan lounge plus an 8-seater on the outside sea-facing patio. With the wind having picked up a bit and bearing in mind grandfather, we stayed indoors.
After brunch, some of us opted for a walk on the beach (this house has direct access to the estate’s private beach access gate and boardwalk) whilst others remained at the house and relaxed some more: We played dominoes and card games, watched some TV and soaked up sun on the loungers beside the rim-flow swimming pool (it was a bit too cold to take a dip).
Another great feature about this house is that, whether you’re an intimate or large group/family/friends staying over, there are so many various indoor & outdoor seating and relaxation areas that you won’t be on-top of one another.
After our family had left, it was just the 4 of us again – we took full advantage of continuing to unwind and relax, especially considering tomorrow was Monday and back to reality!
To end off this stay in this lap of luxury….jacuzzi spa bath with candlelight, bubble bath and views of the sunset over Wilderness beach, followed by Sunday night movie in bed, drifting off into a deep sleep yet again by the sound of the waves below. What more could one ask for?
Contact us to book your bliss-filled stay here too. You’re sure to love it as much as we did!
