After a full day of site inspections in and around Knysna, retreating to Knysna Hollow for a well-deserved rest was just what the doctor ordered!
Having known this property well from years of booking it for various clients, I was most excited to (finally) experience it first-hand. And most delighted I was!
Well sign-posted and hence easy to find, a mere 10 minute drive to Knysna City Center, this Country Estate is set on a private 2 hectare property, offering a tranquil escape from the buzzing tourist attractions nearby. One really doesn’t feel like you’re so close to the heart of it all, more like in a delightful and intimate hideaway nestled in the country side.
The check-in staff were very welcoming and helpful, going so far as to offer to light a fire in my Garden Chalet whilst I enjoy fine-dining dinner at The Knysna Hollow Restaurant in the Old Manor House. I couldn’t resist…either.
After a brief orientation tour, I was shown to a charming Chalet, set in the indigenous gardens prolific in birdlife, including that of guinea fowl. The ‘Fowl Family’ consisting of Mommy, Daddy and Babies following suit were so adorable and entertaining whilst I enjoyed a sundowner on the private patio.
As a result of the absolute peace and quiet of the natural surroundings, my mind wandered off…awoken by the full-moon rising and shining through the treetops****
Time to defrost in the shower of the luxurious en-suite bathroom and head back to the Manor House for that delectable dinner.
The efficient waitron kindly seated me next to a crackling fireplace where I proceeded to devour a 2 course meal. The starter: Butternut Soup served with Homemade Bread (my mother would be proud!), followed by Grilled Fish and Vegetables. Delish!!!! And reasonably priced too – double thumbs up @KnysnaHollow!
Tummy full, the seclusion of my private lounge was calling. A (literally) warm welcome thanks to the pre-lit fire, I reclined on the couch with a glass of red and allowed the flatscreen TV to offer some late night entertainment.
After the fire had sizzled out, the glass was standing empty and there was nothing more to watch on the big box, I crawled into the most comfortable and super large bed and called it a night. Sweet dreams were to be had…
Waking up to the sound of nothing but birdsong outside my little haven was bliss in itself. I welcomed the day in with a fresh cup of coffee and sunshine on the patio.
Breakfast, served in the Peacan Tree Grill Room Restaurant also found in the Manor House, consisted of a Continental Buffet (think delicious fruit juices, unlimited coffee/tea, cereals, yogurts, fruits, nuts, pastries, cheeses, cold meats etc.) as well as a selection of Cooked Breakfasts’. A great kick-start to another day of sight inspections.
The friendly and conversant MD showed me around this sprawling estate. The communal areas comprise of 3 swimming pools (including 1 for children) all with ample seating and sunloungers, a giant-size Chest Board in the Rose Garden, also a full-size Pentanque court with a Boulle set. Various water features fill the landscape, adding to the ambiance of tranquility.
The Manor House is home to the reception area, curio shop, both restaurants, bar/pub with flatscreen TV’s and relaxation areas, also the dedicated conference centre fully equipped with all modern amenities.
When it comes to accommodation, a total of 15 Garden Chalets and 64 Garden Rooms guarantees enough space for all.
