The Fernery Lodge and Chalets is an uniquely positioned 4* rated Guest House and Self-Catering Cottages located on a private estate that borders onto the National Park in Tsitsikamma.

Perched high up on the mountain side, enjoy endless views over the rugged coastline of the Tsitsikamma and Sanddrift river gorge, with the Indian ocean on one side and vast mountain range on the other. This one-of-a-kind Garden Route retreat is also home to the famous Dolphin Trail.

The Fernery Lodge and Chalets accommodation consists of Bed&Breakfast Suites at the Main Lodge as well as Self-Catering Lodges nestled in the forest. There are couple lodges, also family lodges some of which have private swimming pools. All accommodations are beautifully furnished and decorated. A standard throughout includes ceiling fans, electrical blankets, flatscreen televisions with select DStv channels, luxurious bathrooms with underfloor heating and heated towel rails, also tea/coffee stations. Other features include a bar fridge which can be stocked on prior request, digital safes, hair-dryers and cosy bath robes.

Activities and facilities on-site include designated cycling & hiking/walking trails (with bicycles available for hire or bring your own), a dam with rowing boats and canoes, a large swimming pool, children’s playground, various picnic spots and lookout decks, birdwatching, croquet as well as outdoor chess. There is a spa treatment room for those who wish to be pampered, also a sauna. There is an indoor jacuzzi as well as an outdoor jacuzzi, the latter perched high up on the cliff’s edge with exceptional views over the river gorge and surrounding plantations. Additional are two outdoor Kol Kol wood burning hot tubs, tucked away in separate and private settings on the riverbeds, lit up at night.

Storms River Village, known as ‘The Adventure Hub of the Garden Route’, which is home to Treetop Canopy Tours, Segway Tours, Horseriding, Hiking, Blackwater Tubing and Waterfall Zipline Tours as well as Tsitsikamma National Park are within easy reach. Bloukrants Bungee Jumping, the highest in the world, is nearby as well.

The Fernery Lodge 

Perched above a 30 meter waterfall in the Sanddrift River gorge, with stunning views of the river mouth, Indian Ocean and Tsitsikamma mountains. 7 Luxury Suites in total, each tastefully furnished. Unfortunately, no children (under 13 years) are allowed in the Lodge rooms. Each Suite sleeps max 2.

• Premium Lodge Rooms with Ocean Views (Owner’s Suite, Aquarius & Toscana Room): Top-end suites. Private balcony with outdoor seating arrangements and private BBQ/Braai. Full sea views, great comfort and special features such as jacuzzi spa bath.
• Premium Lodge Rooms with Ravine Views (Riverine & Spice Room): Spacious suites. Private balcony with outdoor seating arrangements and private BBQ/Braai. Views over the river gorge and Tsitsikamma mountains.
• Luxury Lodge Rooms with Private Courtyard – no sea or river view (Plantation & Garden Room): Situated in the Main Lodge with private courtyard and easy access into the gardens.

The Fernery Chalets

Nestled among the fynbos overlooking the river, offering guests a self-catering country retreat in nature. Spacious and secluded. Each chalet has an en-suite bathroom with bath and shower, indoor wood-burning fireplace and wrap around deck with BBQ/Braai.

• B&B Chalets (Loerie, Galjoen, In The Forest, Alikreukel, Fern & Oyster Catcher Cottage): Sleeps max 2 people in a King/Twin beds. Kitchenette. Bathrooms with double showers and double vanities, freestanding bath with full forest views.
• B&B Family Chalets (Bluelily & Sunbird Cottage): Sleeps max 4 people – suited best to a family with children under 16 years old as it’s open-plan: Two people upstairs in an open loft and two people downstairs, sharing one bathroom.  in a King/Twin beds. Bathrooms with double showers and double vanities, freestanding bath with full forest views. Fully equipped kitchenette.
• Luxury B&B Apartment Chalets (Porcupine/Francolin & Otter/Jacana Cottage): Sleeps max 4 people – suited to friends travelling together and families with older children: Two bedrooms on either side of the chalet, both en-suite and both with indoor wood-burning fireplaces and lounge areas with TVs. Rooms are separated by a fully equipped kitchen in-between, with dining table.  These Chalets have a spacious deck with outdoor seating arrangements, BBQ/Braai, private swimming pool and forest, plantation and river views.
