Highgate Ostrich Farm offers guided tours throughout the day led by knowledgeable guides who share fascinating facts about ostriches. These tours provide insights into ostrich farming, their behaviour as well as the farm’s long history.
The farm is one of the oldest ostrich show farms in South Africa, with over 80 years of experience. Each tour has two parts: the main yard and the farmlands. In the main yard, you will be shown different ostrich feathers, the incubators and how they work, gizzard stones and you can feed the ostriches yourself! They offer a Traditional Ostrich Tour with either a delicious classic or a mouthwatering premier meal.
Interactive Activities
During your tour, you will enjoy interactive activities such as feeding the ostriches and seeing crafts made from their leather, feathers and eggs. This hands-on experience is both educational and fun, perfect for visitors of all ages.
Family Fun & Ostrich Races
Although ostrich riding and races have recently been discontinued, the farm still offers a lively atmosphere with plenty of family-friendly activities. There is a play area for children and donkey cart rides. Parents can relax and savour local wines and craft beers whilst keeping an eye on their children.

The farm features a restaurant, The Pepper Tree, that serves local cuisine, making it an ideal spot for a picnic or a meal after your tour. The beautiful setting in the Klein Karoo offers stunning backdrop views for a most enjoyable day out.
